Application of different materials slitting blade

1. 52100 steel slitting blades
52100 steel slitting blade has the shortest wear life, so it is rarely recommended for shear slitting applications. 52100 steel slitting blade is inexpensive, therefore, using it must be maintained frequently and replace blunt blades. Usually, such slitting blades do not need to be sharpened. Worn slitting blades are discarded and replaced with new blades. However, a slitting blade made of 52100 steel is necessary when cutting specific plastic materials because it generates a small amount of heat during the cutting process.
2. D2 steel slitting blade
D2 steel is the most commonly used material for the top and bottom slitting blades. D2 steel slitting blade has a long wear life and is easy to sharpen. It is also a versatile material for cutting and slitting applications involving plastics and paper. From wear and low budget perspective, D2 steel’s slitting blades are often the most cost-effective option.
3. M2 steel slitting blades
M2 steel is commonly used for upper and lower slitting blades. And because it is harder and tougher than D2 steel, the M2 steel slitting blade has a longer service life. Slitting blades made of M2 steel are generally recommended for cutting and slitting applications involving nonwovens and paper because these materials are highly abrasive and cause rapid blade wear.
4. 10V CPM
This steel is highly regarded for its abrasion resistance, making it ideal for applications that require long runs and shearing of various materials (multilayer plastics, paper, and nonwovens). Slitting blades made of CPM 10V steel are easy to sharpen, which helps reduce the high cost of using such blades.
5. Cemented carbide slitting blade
In environments that require a 24-hour uninterrupted operation, carbide slitting blades are ideal for bottom blades. Cemented carbide slitting blade maintains sharpness by cutting long coils of abrasive. Mounting inserts are made of D2 steel, while cemented carbide is only mounted at the point of the compression to provide the greatest benefit while minimizing costs.
